CHILD SAFETY

At Prominence Blinds, Child Safety is paramount when supplying and installing blinds. All of the blinds that we fit follow the 2014 Child Safety requirements and we also advise parents and carers about practical, simple precautions that can be taken to significantly reduce the risk to children.

Children are naturally inquisitive and curious of everything around them and they love to explore so as a supplier of internal blinds, we have a responsibility to ensure that all of the blinds that we supply are child safe and that customers are aware of the child safety measures that are available to them. The ‘Make it Safe’ leaflet provided by the BBSA (The British Blind and Shutter Association) provides useful advice for parents, grandparents and carers about the precautions that can be taken to reduce the risk of blind cords and chains and keep them out of reach, the various types of inherently child safe blinds available and the typical examples of safety devices that should be fitted with any blinds that have cords or chains attached to them.

- Always ensure that looped cords and chained blinds in your house have the required safety devices (Cleat, Cord/ chain tidy and chain- break or cord-break connectors).

- Make sure that all cords and chains are always secured and out of reach.

- Do not tie cords together and ensure that cords do not twist and create a loop.

- Do not place your child’s bed, highchair or playpen near to a window blind.

- Do not put sofas, chairs, table, shelves or bookcases near to a window blind, as children love to climb!

*NB: If you wish to find out more about Child Safety in relation to the supplying and fitting of blinds then please visit: www.MakeitSafe.org.uk or click on the video from BBSA below:

- Perfect Fit Blinds - Blinds that require no drilling or screwing as they simply click into place between the rubber beading and the glass on uPVC windows. The blinds are available as Pleated, Venetian and Roller and they can be controlled using a wand or tab.

- Roller Blinds that are either motorised or controlled by adjusting the bottom bar.

- Vertical Blinds that are wand operated so that you do not need cords or chains and you can even have weighted welded louvres so that the louvres are also chain free.
